Can you believe it’s summer already with 80/90 Degree weather in Southern California. Last year I was 8 months pregnant and too tired to do activities, let alone remember taking care of our skin when outdoors. This year how after seeing how much time we spend outdoors and how badly we burn I have realized it’s crucial for both myself and the kids to be protected from the sun’s rays and have started using Aveeno SunCare Products.
With Ramadan ending on Thursday, I wanted to do a simple fun activity with the kids to make their Eid Cards for Baba & the Grandparents. This will be our first time doing something like this so I can’t wait to see everyone’s reactions.
To make Last Minute Eid Cards you will need:
Location
Try to go to an open space to paint and possibly a water splash pad or something to wash off the paint with. If you have a large backyard then that’s perfect to have a more personal set up. We don’t have any backyard so we had to use the local park.
Sunscreen
We got to protect everyone’s skin! We will be spending time outdoors doing this in the sun as it will get messy and they can just wash up in the sun in the fountains at the park!
I went to CVS and got myself the Aveeno® Protect + Hydrate® Lotion Sunscreen With Broad Spectrum Spf 30 for now (will probably switch to the 70 for August when it’s much hotter). It is formulated with skin-soothing Active Naturals Colloidal Oatmeal. This hydrates skin to keep it soft, smooth and feeling healthier than before sun exposure.
For the kids, I got them the Aveeno® Baby Continuous Protection® Sensitive Skin Zinc Oxide Sunscreen SPF 50. I was comforted by the fact that it is a brand recommended by pediatricians. It is formulated with naturally sourced 100% Zinc Oxide and Active Naturals® Oat & combines superior broad spectrum UVA/UVB sun protection with skin soothing benefits. With all the products out there, it’s so important to use something that is free of all parabens, phthalates, dyes, fragrances & chemical sunscreen ingredients.
Other things you will need
- Paint & Brushes – I have a pack of little tubes in several colors that we can mix up.
- A few paper plates to get pour the paint on & lots of Blank Paper.
- A Pencil to trace whatever you will be drawing.
- Snacks – I got some cookies, fruit, and organic juice to keep the kids busy if they get distracted.
- Lots of Water to keep hydrated
- Swim clothes or anything you don’t mind them getting messy/wet in. Don’t forget an extra set of clothes to change into!
To Make The Eid Cards:
- Trace the Words you want to appear on the front of the card. We were doing Eid Cards and so I basically Traced out the letters EID.
- Pour different colors of paint for the kids to dip their hands/fingers in.
- Using their fingers have the kids pick different color paints and either trace along the dotted line or spot paint on the dots! This is a great learning activity for them.
- Dip their palm in the paint and do a hand-print on the inside of the card.
- Let the cards dry. Later you can add their names and a special message for grandma and grandpa on Friday for Eid Al Fitr in the morning!
- Leave the cards to dry in the sun. You will have cute little DIY Last Minute Eid Cards made by the kids themselves!
They spent about 30 mins in the sun while doing the cards. I planned for them to play in the splash pad to wash off the paint. I knew they would play for at least 1-2 hours so I applied sunscreen again. My kids don’t like us applying any cream on their face, so I am glad that Aveeno is mild, tear free and clinically known to be as gentle as water. Later that night, I noticed my daughter wasn’t as burnt or flustered as she normally gets in the sun!
She didn’t even tan much at all. My son, on the other hand, tanned more on his legs since he was sitting when he was in the water (he’s not walking yet). It’s great that this sunscreen is that it is non-irritating, hypoallergenic and water resistant (80 minutes).
I waited in the car while the kids rested from all that time in the sun. I checked my face in the mirror and I kid you not, I wasn’t as tanned as I normally get! The sunscreen has enviroguard technology which really provides long-lasting, broad-spectrum photostable protection against sun’s harmful UVA/UVB rays. The best part about the adult cream was it was oil free. I normally HATE applying sunscreen because I have combination skin. However, with Aveeno Sunscreen I was able to apply makeup too without any oiling. I was really pleased so I posed for a picture!
CVS has an offer on for the sunscreens where you can save $3 off any of the Aveeno Sun or Aveeno Baby Sun products through Ibotta. Click here to check out more about this offer.
